A few short years ago, the idea of web based training seemed like something out of a science fiction novel. Very few people believed that it would be possible to train employees in any meaningful way using the Internet. Technology (and times) have changed, however. Today, online learning is a mainstream technique that's becoming increasingly popular.
We've seen the price of technology plummet. Meanwhile, we've seen the actual power and flexibility of computer components grow by leaps and bounds. That's been accompanied by greater high-speed Internet access availability at surprisingly low costs. That confluence of circumstances set the stage for an elearning boom. Software developers were ready to seize the opportunity, too, creating products that finally make Internet-based job training a functional reality.
Today, online training and education aren't exotic rarities. They're commonplace. What was once a "far out" idea is now a must-have for every business interested in cutting costs while improving training and employee education.
