Political activist Mary "Yellin"Lease is reputed to have said, Raise less corn and more Hell." I would second that emotion. It is way past time for Middle Class America to stop being so polite.

No one has come up with an acceptable reason for why Middle Class America should be expected to just accept being outsourced, folded, spindled, and mutilated just so Wealthy CEO's and Stockholders can assure themselves of 120% profits. Free market economics is not some scientific principle it is selfishness, greed, and arrogance cloaked as scientific theory.

I propose that all of us who believe that our economy should work for all Americans organize a march on Washington for Labor Day. We need to show our Congress how many of us would join a union if we had the opportunity and ability to join. We could all sign union cards which could then be dumped on the desks of all those who vote No on EFCA.

The Middle Class is shrinking. For years wages haven't kept up with the cost of living. We nolonger have job security, what health care we have seems modeled on Jiffy Lube as a delivery model of care. The excuse is that it makes business non-competitive to have to pay fair wages.

A fair question is competitive with what?

There are two ways you can answer this. The first is to point out that we have had weak unions and declining Middle Class wages for thirty years. We have also been losing jobs about as fast as you can say NAFTA and WTO and GATT. Maybe we need a different model for globalization because this low wage model has been a race to the bottom. It is slowly destroying the American dream for millions of Americans. Disgustingly, our Congress, fat with lobbyist bribes tells us this is all we can expect.

Wanna bet?

The second way to look at it is that while Corporate CEO's say we can't afford to enable workers involved in negotiating contracts for wages benefits and retirement, not one CEO would work without having a contract for their own salary and benefits. Remember how our obliging Congress has forked over almost three trillion dollars to these Robber Baron Financiers, and they stuck their hands in the till for bonuses after destroying our economy?

Their excuse was that these contracts they signed couldn't be broken no matter what. Of course our Congress didn't believe that Union contracts couldn't be broken. We bailed out crooked banks but forced the auto industry into bankruptcy which may cost as much as five million more jobs. Banks and fraudulent accountants, too big to fail, the Middle Class not so much.

Congress failed to pass mortgage reform that could have saved as many as 12.8 million homes from foreclosure. Then they failed to pass credit card reform and capping interest rates. The Senator from Banking and Insurance Max Baucus held the first hearing on healthcare and left those advocating single payer out, because well he hasn't given us the real reason, his corporate sponsors are throwing lots of money into Congressional coffers to control the reformist urge.

How is that not class warfare?

Unions enable Middle Class America to pool our resources and organized we have the clout to make Congress afraid of the only thing worse than the monetary spigots being turned off to our coin operated leaders, losing the election.

Even Democrats have passed on the lie that somehow the EFCA is undemocratic because the Card Check provision ends the secret ballot. The only thing EFCA does is end Management being in control of the secret ballot and leaves the decision about having or not having a secret ballot in the hands of the employees where it should be.

I have talked elsewhere about what a farce the secret ballot election as controlled by management was where I worked. They held manadatory meetings, threatened to close the company if the union won and then reopen with new employees. Then they threatened not to negotiate on a contract if the union won, then they bribed employees with promises of promotions and higher wages if they voted no. Then management all stood around the ballot box just in case anyone was still thinking of a union. Of course these are all violations of federal law but what the heck, the union busting attorney's they hired showed them how breaking the law was cheaper than abiding by the law. Work hard and play by the rules anyone?

I wonder how many of you could use the 28% higher wages union workers make. How might that stimulate the economy. Probably much better than giving three trillion to Wall Street.

America should work for all of us not the Chosen Few We are powerless unless we organize.

Which Side Are you on? by Florence Reece 1930

Come all you good workers

Good news to you I'll tell

Of how the good ol union

Has come in here to dwell

My Daddy was a miner

And I'm a miners son

And I'll stick with the union

Till every battles won.

They say in Harlan County

There are no neutrals there

You'll either be a Union man

Or a thug for J.H.Bair.

Don't scab for the bosses

Don't listen to their lies

Us poor folks haven't got a chance

Unless we ORGANIZE

chorus--- Which side are you on? Which side are you on? Which side are you on?
