As the lazy days of summer come to an end and the month of August creeps by, the thoughts of returning to school is on every ones mind. Parents, students,and teachers go over the memories of the summer gone by and start to think of the school year ahead. Parents are making plans to head out to the local Wal-mart or they are going online to find the best prices for school supplies to get their child set up for the upcoming school year. But, when you home school your child You will need to take a different approach on the supplies that your child needs.
In order for your child to be recognized by the provincial or state educational system, as completing a grade level they will need to pass an exam that is administered by the state or province. As parents, we were responsible for knowing what our child needed to learn for that grade level. As we picked up the proper text books for each subject we also came across a study guide. It explained some techniques and strategies of how to study and absorb information. It talked about extreme concentration techniques for fifteen minutes on and ten minutes off, fifteen minutes on and ten off... It also described the advantages of repetitiveness. Seeing, hearing, writing and verbally saying something and how the sub-conscience mind embeds the information.
Have you ever heard of a technique called "auto suggestion"? My daughter was having a hard time to memorize her times table. In our school system the students need to be proficient with their multiplication facts up to the twelve times table. Auto suggestion is when you allow your sub-conscience mind to do the work for you. My daughter and I made a recording of her reciting her multiplication facts. When she went to bed, she would turn on her CD player and set it to auto replay and listen to her own voice saying that facts that we recorded. The CD just keep replaying all night long, and her sub-conscience mind absorbed the information.
7 days later she knew her times table without hesitation.
